His shootout with police ultimately saved the taxpayers a lot of money for imprisonment, trials, and perhaps an execution (in Arkansas)... This was one of those situations where justice was achieved before the wheels of the 'system' started turning.

I'd usually agree with you, but given that in this case a cop was killed and taxpayers will be supporting his widow, I don't know how much money, if any, this little bastard saved us by getting himself killed instead of going to trial.
And I've got a sneaking suspicion that, given the shrine to swastikas found in his bedroom, he may have been one small cog in an organized effort.
But now we'll probably never know.
